Grandma teaches me
to be kind
to everyone.
Grandma talks with me
when I am sad
and need a friend.
Grandma says to me
"Cheer up young one!"
and "I love you!"
Grandma holds my hand
and walks with me
toward better days.
-Scott
Lovely! The last stanza, about better days hit me and made me a bit sad.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle! I actually played around quite a bit with the last line, but in the end wanted to show (somehow) that grandma's guidance ultimately makes us better people. However, you're right--the last line does come off a bit melancholy.
DeleteMy grandma had more influence over who I am today than anyone in my life. Thanks for the remembered smile.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked the poem, Beth. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI'm enjoying each and every day of being a "Gammie" and this beautiful poem reminded me of all those little things we do that our grandchildren will always treasure.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Scott!
Hi Martha! Thanks for the kind words and for stopping by!
DeleteFor me personally, both of my grandmas had an immensely positive impact on my life and were such great role models for living a good and happy life. I miss them very much. It is definitely true that grandparents really do make a lasting impression on us.
Also, I'm glad to hear that you enjoy being a "Grammie" to your grandchildren. What a joy and a blessing!
Thanks again for the kind words and for visiting!
All the best,
Scott
