Underground

How long has it been

since we have seen daylight?

We've been drudging

underground.

The tunnel winds on

without an end in sight.

Shall we turn back?

Left or right?

I can't remember

why it was we came here.

Into depths.

In too deep.

Rats scurry about

in the dank and hollow.

We search for signs

any form.

How long we've been here!

Toiling in crepuscule!

We must get out!

Get out now!

We round the corner.

Lo!  What is that ahead?

Blazing beacon!

Blessed bright!

No time to look back!

Take my hand don't let go!

We leave despair

and darkness!
